VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

For The Birds! Environmental Education Program has taught hundreds of children in New York City's inner city schools about birds, wildlife, and their habitats. Volunteers are needed to assist with one day field trips for elementary school students to local parks. Expert birding skills are not necessary--people who enjoy working with children, having fun, and want to share their love of nature with urban kids are welcome.

Motivated volunteers are also needed to assist our educators in teaching this program or to be lead teachers themselves in more locations next year. Please contact Kim Keirnan, Program Coordinator (212) 979-3064 for further information or click here for more information of the For The Birds! Program.

Current Opportunities:

The Long Island Bird Conservation Program is looking for volunteers to assist with endangered species monitoring efforts at beaches across Long Island. Volunteers will locate nests and monitor Piping Plovers and Least Terns on a weekly basis during the summer breeding season.

If you are interested in spending time on the beach and helping our endangered birds please contact Carolyn Spilman, Long Island Bird Conservation Coordinator, at 631-477-6456 or via email for more information.

Thank you for your interest in Audubon!
