Wildlife

New York State is blessed with a great diversity of fish and wildlife. More than

  • 328 birds species;
  • 93 mammal species;
  • 490 marine and freshwater fish species; and
  • 73 species of reptiles and amphibians

call New York home and are the foundation of the state's biological richness. Citizens enjoy a wide array of recreational activities associated with fish and wildlife including fishing, bird watching, hunting and natural history appreciation.

Wildlife protection and scientific management is a core mission of Audubon New York. In the legislature, Audubon is a leading advocate in working to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.
