Audubon Helps Launch International
Fund to Protect Winter Habitat for Bicknell’s Thrush...
Sometimes, conserving the natural history and biodiversity
of one place, like the Adirondacks, requires taking action
in a different place far away. A unique partnership of organizations,
including the Adirondack Park Agency, Olympic Regional Development
Authority (ORDA), New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation, Adirondack Council, Adirondack Chapter of The
Nature Conservancy, Audubon New York, Cornell Lab of Ornithology,
Vermont Institute of Natural Science, and the Wildlife Conservation
Society, embraced that notion as they announced the creation
of the Bicknell’s Thrush Habitat Protection Fund.

Disappearing Common Birds Send Environmental
Wake-up Call… Population declines for some of the
most recognized and beloved birds in New York echo the disturbing
findings of a new analysis by the National Audubon Society
that reveals how local and national threats are combining

Mills Appoint Key Deputies to Lead Education Reform Effort…
David J. Miller will be in a new post that is responsible
for carrying out fundamental systems change where needed to
ensure the Department’s capacity is allocated effectively
to achieve its mission. He is a leader with outstanding accomplishments
in the field of conservation and education. He is greatly
respected and admired by state opinion leaders and has worked
closely with both prominent Democrats and Republicans to achieve

Governor Spitzer Outlines New Environmental
Agenda... “Eliot Spitzer has consistently been a
strong advocate for protecting water quality, from cleaning
up Long Island Sound to reducing acid rain, and he needs to
continue that tradition to implement his agenda,” said
