Audubon Ambassadors Expanding their Flock in Year of the Bird

Volunteers statewide are taking action to protect birds from the impacts of climate change.

Our Audubon Ambassador program is going strong! On January 27, 2018, over thirty members across the Hudson Valley gathered at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library to become trained Audubon Ambassadors for New York’s 100+ bird species at-risk in a warming world. Through these informative three hour sessions, participants acquire organizational skills that equip them to be a messenger and advocate for climate change solutions. Learn more about these events here.

Ambassadors advocate for policies, laws, and practices that make the world more sustainable for birds and people alike. You’ll find our network engaged in a variety of grassroots campaigns that aim to create a greater demand for change. Volunteers – both in the field and in their local communities – are: documenting bird species' responses to increased temperatures, planting native gardens that help migrating birds find food and safe passage, and working alongside their municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

With 2018 marked as National Geographic’s Year of the Bird, wildlife enthusiasts across the country are celebrating the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act while fighting to also protect its lasting conservation legacy. Now, more than ever -- it’s time to give a flock! Birds allow us to tell a powerful and authentic story that motivate elected officials to act accordingly when they hear from their constituents.

You can further become a champion for birds and conservation by attending an upcoming Ambassador training near you. You don’t need to be an expert on birds or the environment – everyone is welcome! Below you will find the upcoming events; click the links to register!
