Exciting policy updates and more in the first newsletter of 2018!

Dear friend,

2018 is off to a strong start for the birds and people of New York. We are pleased to announce that Governor Cuomo’s 2018-19 Executive Budget proposal includes several of Audubon New York’s policy and fiscal priorities, including $300 million for the Environmental Protection Fund and legislation that would establish the Empire Forests for the Future Initiative. Among other things, the Empire Forests for the Future Initiative includes modifications to forest tax law and grants to help landowners implement best forest management practices, incentivizing protection and proper management of private forests throughout the state. Audubon New York commends the Governor for his continued commitment and leadership in protecting New York’s environment. For more information, click here.

2017 closed out on a very high note as we saw unprecedented generosity from our dedicated members. Thanks to the support of conservation-minded individuals like yourself, we exceeded our year-end fundraising goal by nearly $10,000. Thank you for all that you do for birds!

Below are some updates from around our statewide conservation network. We are excited for all that 2018 will bring and look forward to sharing it with you.

Sincerely,

Mike Burger
Director of Conservation & Science
