The New York State Smart Growth Working Group At the first smart growth conference in 1999 one of the major conclusions on which there was general agreement was that a working group should be established that would monitor and guide the next steps for achieving smart growth in New York State. This was an informal working group, but it has served well for the last year in developing a set of principles based on the recommendations from the speakers at the 1999 conference. The working group has also drafted legislative proposals and language and some of this language has now been incorporated in the Executive Order signed by Governor Pataki in January, 2000, which established the Quality Communities Task Force. The participating member organizations of the Smart Growth Working Group are listed below. Association of Towns of the State of New York Environmental Advocates Farm Bureau Glynwood Center Government Law Center of Albany Law School Group for the South Fork Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth, University of Buffalo Land Trust Alliance New York Program Land Use Law Center, Pace University School of Law Long Island Builders Institute National Audubon Society of New York State (chair) New York League of Conservation Voters New York Parks and Conservation Association New York Planning Federation New York State Builders Association New York State Conference of Mayors Niagara Mohawk Foundation Office of the Mayor of Rochester Preservation League of New York State Regional Plan Association Scenic Hudson Sustainable Long Island The Nature Conservancy Upstate NY Chapter, American Planning Association Westchester Land Trust |
