The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps is an expanding organization of community volunteers who are contributing to restoration projects that are creating or improving wildlife habitat in the Onondaga Lake watershed.
The Corps was founded in 2012 to inspire future stewards of Onondaga Lake and its watershed through a hands-on, experience-based program that offers citizens and organizations the opportunity to participate in activities that help restore and sustain Onondaga Lake and its value as an Audubon Important Bird Area.
Onondaga Lake is an important wintering area for Bald Eagles and waterfowl, providing habitat, food, and water sources that many bird species depend upon for survival during the cold winter months.

Join us as we plant native vegetation at Onondaga Lake's newest wetland near the mouth of Harbor Brook.
The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps has helped transform the Onondaga Lake shoreline and wetlands into thriving habitats for birds and other wildlife. Over 900 Corps members have participated in stewardship activities that improve the sustainability of Onondaga Lake.
On Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers will continue these efforts by planting native species while learning from experts from Audubon New York, Onondaga Audubon, and Parsons about the shoreline and wetlands and their importance in supporting Onondaga Lake and its value as an Audubon Important Bird Area. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, a hand trowel and wear shoes/boots that can get wet and muddy. The 2-acre emergent wetland creation project is part of a series of enhancements to 18 acres of diverse wetlands along Onondaga Lake's southwest shoreline that are supplying aquatic and fish spawning habitat. The area will thrive with wetland plant species including pickerelweed, sedges, bulrush, and wool grass and white waterlily, and will host a variety of birds including Bald Eagle, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, waterfowl and shorebirds.

The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps was founded in 2012 by Honeywell in partnership with Montezuma Audubon Center and Onondaga Audubon and is now an Audubon New York program.
