"Be a Good Egg" Sunken Meadow State Park Kings Park, NY

July 13, 2019

“Be a Good Egg” is an outreach initiative that encourages people to share the shore with beach-nesting birds like the Piping Plover. We educate beach-goers about birds and ask them to take the “Be a Good Egg” pledge to:
1) keep out of fenced-off nesting areas;
2) keep trash off the beach; and,
3) keep dogs off of nesting beaches.

At a typical "Be a Good Egg" event, we will have a tent and table set up with brochures and giveaways for visitors who engage in the conversation and especially if they take the pledge. Ideally our goal would be to get as many signed pledges as possible but even more important is to have meaningful conversations that will stick long after people leave. If you love the beach, enjoy talking to people, and want to be a part of protecting Long Island's shorebirds then this opportunity is perfect for you.
