GARRISON, N.Y. (October 29, 2018) – After 25 years at Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary, Eric Lind will be moving into a new leadership role at Audubon New York – Director of Community Science & Restoration. To honor Eric’s decades of service to Constitution Marsh, the Philipstown community, and the environment, the Garrison Art Center will be displaying a special exhibition titled, The Marsh, featuring select photographs taken by Eric of wildlife found at the marsh and the surrounding area. The exhibit will open on November 2 at 4:00 p.m. and will continue through November 3 – 4, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
“We are very proud of the on-the-ground conservation and breakthrough research that have been achieved at Constitution Marsh under Eric’s outstanding leadership, says Ana Paula Tavares, Executive Director of Audubon New York. “The unique and beautiful tidal marsh serves as vital habitat to birds, and provides people of all ages a place to learn about and immerse themselves in nature. The Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary will continue to transform visitors for decades to come, and Audubon New York is privileged to have Eric continue his valuable work in this new capacity.”
Eric’s experience at the Marsh sets him up for continued success in his new position. Since being named director at the Marsh in 1998, Eric convened the Advisory Board, more than doubled the Center’s annual operating budget, and oversaw significant capital improvements, including the construction of the extraordinary boardwalk. In addition, he thoughtfully managed interpretive and educational programming around the conservation of wetlands, birds, and other wildlife of the Hudson River Estuary; developed a year-round internship and mentoring program for students entering the field of conservation; implemented creative invasive species control methods; and more recently, oversaw three additional Audubon properties in the Hudson River Valley comprised of 2,300 acres of forest, field and wetland habitats.
In this new position, Eric will lead Audubon New York’s efforts to engage community scientists in understanding, managing, and improving the ecological condition of nature center grounds and sanctuaries; contributing to restoration projects on other lands as aligned with Audubon’s conservation strategies; and supporting our local chapters with implementing restoration best practices at their sanctuaries. Additionally, the Director of Community Science & Restoration will support other Audubon New York staff and Chapters in the development of educational programs and messaging on ecology and restoration at these sites.
