Clean Water Jobs Coalition
A truly unique coalition of conservationists, construction contracting firms, and organized labor banded together in the early 1990s to advocate for pollution control, cleaner water, and living-wage jobs for New Yorkers. United under the banner of The Clean Water Jobs Coalition, Audubon New York, the nearly 50,000 member state program of the National Audubon Society, joined with the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc., and its 600 member companies, and the New York State Laborers, convened more than 20 years ago to fight for the recovery of Long Island Sound. Due to the collective efforts of this exceptional coalition, we have been able to secure passage of the Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Acts by Congress, and have successfully secured hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for vital upgrades to our downstate infrastructure.
Sound Guardian Award
The Clean Water Jobs Coalition gives out the Long Island Sound Guardian Awards annually to an outstanding public official and business leader whose actions have made a difference in the protection, restoration, and stewardship of Long Island Sound and its ecosystem. The award recipients have also demonstrated leadership in bringing together environmental, labor, and business interests for the restoration of Long Island Sound, recognizing that these efforts benefit both the environmental and economic condition of the region.
