For the 2nd year running, Audubon New York has received funding through the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund to provide environmental education programs to the residents of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This funding is made possible through the $19.5 million dollar settlement between ExxonMobil and the residents of Greenpoint after a massive oil spill in the community over 50 years ago.
Join naturalists from Audubon New York and Prospect Park Alliance as they introduce you to the birds and aquatic wildlife that call Brooklyn their home. Participants will explore the communities of Greenpoint and Prospect Park and discover the variety of wildlife that flourish in Brooklyn. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Adults 18 and over may attend.

Program Director Haley Main, “These programs are a new addition to the student programs already underway, and we are eager to work with all the residents of Greenpoint, exploring the wonders of their local, natural habitats.”

Introduction to the Birds of Greenpoint
April 16 & May 1 10:00 am – 12 noon. Explore McGolrick Park and surrounding neighborhood identifying local birds by sight and sound and learn about the different habitats birds need for survival. Living Water Explorations at Prospect Park
May 14 & May 22 10:30 am – 12 noon. Get ready to get hands-on by the pond-dipping for snails, leeches and dragon fly nymphs! Learn the amazing and vital roles these tiny critters play in our environment. Water testing kits and pond dip nets will be provided. Meet at the Prospect Park Boathouse.
